Sidedressing - Low Intensity
Aboska 27 (11 : 6 : 16) is a good high analysis fertilizer formulated for sidedressing in stonefruit. Many programs have included the application of Paton 27 in a split application with 1.5kg per tree 6 weeks prior to bud burst and I kg per tree 5 weeks after bud burst. Paton K-Tram or Sulphate of Potash can often be substituted for the second application where phosphorus levels are adequate.
Size and Flavour
Potassium Nitrate (13 : 0: 38.2) Potassium influences both internal and external crop quality, sugar ratios, flavour, intensity of pigments as well as the firmness of fruit. Potassium also contributes to the extent of plant resistance to both low temperature and disease. Nitrate is a soluble form of nitrogen most readily adsorbed by the plant. Fertigation allows the producer to monitor the soil availability of both essential nutrients. Fertigation at 5-10 day intervals (every 1-3 irrigations) is recommended.
Size, Flavour and Durability
Potassium Thiosulfate (KTS 0 : 0 : 25 : 17S) KTS is a neutral to basic, chloride free, clear liquid solution containing 25% potassium and 17% sulphur. KTS may be applied by drip sprinkler, flood or mixed with other nutrients as a foliar. The benefits of potassium are listed above. The benefits of sulphur include the increase in plant production of high quality proteins, improving the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis and aiding in production of important enzymes and vitamins within the plant. The recommended application to stonefruit is 25L per Ha, or 0.03L per tree in two week intervals over three applications. It is recommended that KTS be foliar applied with Trisert-CB.
Accelerates Uptake of Foliar Nutrients
Trisert-CB (26 : 0 : 0 :0.5B) Trisert is a triazone based controlled release liquid nitrogen fertilizer that will improve the foliar adsorption of KTS and other spray products. Apply in a mix with KTS at a rate of 25L per Ha, or 0.03L per tree. Do not use on Nectarines.
Fruit Durability
Calcium Nitrate. Calcium is important for fruit durability and fruit storage characteristics. Apply calcium nitrate as a foliar spray at 500g per I00L.
Hardiness of New Wood
Zinc deficiencies show up as dieback and non hardening of new growth. In extreme cases it will show as 'Little Leaf' (rosettes of undersized leaves). To correct use NZN as a spray 0.15L in 100L.
See a sample program for late season peaches.
