Pomefruit (Apples and Pears)

The majority of Pome fruits grow best in climates where the Winters are cold and the Summers mild. Most of them require some fertilizer or soil amelioration program. Mature apples and pears require less phosphorus and an application of a 12 - 0 - 15 at the rate of 540 kg per ha (540 g/m2) may be beneficial. Younger apples and pears may require an application of a fertilizer such as Paton's Blue (13 - 4 - 16) at the rate of 270 grams per year of tree age after the first year up to the total for the mature trees.
