Roses
Roses are highly adaptable to a variety of climates and soil types. They thrive in fertile soils, high in organic matter. Fertilizing is necessary for beautiful roses and an application of Multicote Controlled Release at planting would be ideal. For mature plants, applications of a specific rose fertilizer, such as Paton's Rose Food, is recommended. The formula is suitable for hybrid tea, floribunda, miniature and climbing roses.
How to Apply
The formula should be applied in late winter after pruning. The second application should be made in January to February for optimum autumn blooms.
For clay soils, an application of 50 - 75 grams per square metre should be used on younger bushes and 100 - 150 grams per square metre for older established plants. Sandy soils will require lesser amounts but more often frequently. The suggested frequency for sandy soils is four times a year in mid-August, mid-October, mid-December and mid-January at a rate of 30 - 50 grams per square metre on smaller bushes, and 60 - 100 grams per square metre on established plants. Always water in well after application. Rose fertilizers are best used in conjunction with good organic mulch such as spent mushroom compost.
