Paton Natural Gypsum
Natural Gypsum is a safe, environmentally friendly product that will help to break up clay and compacted soils, thereby improving the ability of air and water to penetrate soil, and greatly assisting root development.
- A 100% natural, environmentally friendly product.
- Breaks up clay soils.
- Improves water penetration and aids root development.
- Improves watering efficiency and reduces water use.
Suitable For
Natural Gypsum works by aggregating clay particles, thus loosening tight soils and making it easier for water to penetrate. When water is absorbed and moisture retained, more nutrients are made available to plant roots. Natural Gypsum is suitable for application wherever there is clay, or compacted soil conditions, particularly if these conditions inhibit root development and water penetration.
How Much to Apply
The ideal way to use Natural Gypsum is to work it into the bare earth and incorporate it into the soil. It can be safely applied immediately prior to planting garden beds, shrubs or new lawn areas. It is advisable to apply approximately 400-500 grams per square metre and work well into the soil by digging or raking.
Natural Gypsum can be applied to established garden beds and lawn areas by broadcasting the formulation at a rate of 300 - 500 grams per square metre. For best results on garden beds, the formulation should be lightly worked into the soil around plants by gently tilling or raking, being careful not to disturb shallow roots. On established lawns the application should be evenly broadcasted and watered well. Spiking or aerating prior to application will greatly enhance results. We recommend the application of Gypsum at least once each year, although by splitting the annual application into two half applications, better results will be achieved.
Application Hints
Apply sparingly to potted plants as an excess of plant food can cause burning. Despite being an organic fertilizer, it is still safer to apply small amounts on a regular basis. Aim for a uniform application of Natural Gypsum to achieve the best result. If hand broadcasting, apply less of the formula but go over the area at least twice in different directions (one at a right angle to the other).
Other Important Things to Remember
- Always water fertilizer well, immediately after application. Watering should involve a thorough saturation of the area.
- Avoid direct contact with plant roots, seeds etc.
- Even, light and regular applications of a quality product will achieve the best results.
- Always reseal bags after use and dispose of empty containers properly.
- Do not exceed the recommended application rates as this can be harmful to plants.
