Palms
In general, Palms require well-drained soil, high in organic matter. Palms that have originated from the rain forest areas generally are more adapted to acidic soils, while Palms from drier areas can be cultivated in many different soil types.
Paton's Palm Food is a premium blend especially formulated for the requirements of a wide range of native and exotic Palms. It contains a range of essential nutrients and may be used with confidence in fertilizing this interesting group of plants.
Recommendations
Suitable for Kentias, Bangalows, Cabbage, Date, Alexander, Raphis, Golden Cane, Parlour and all other Palms. The formula should be applied in late winter to early spring, again in mid-summer, with a light follow up application in mid-August, or more frequently as required. For clay soils, apply 150 - 200 grams per square metre. For sandy soils a lesser amount of 100 grams per square metre is recommended, applied in a more frequent fashion. The suggested frequency for sandy soil is late July to mid-August, mid-October, mid-December and mid-March. Always water in well after application.
Containers
As little as 5 -10 grams is sufficient for fertilizing small plants in 200 mm containers.
